September 17 Chatham County FairI went to the Chatham County Fair today to pick up the 2 items I entered last Sunday. You can see them by looking at my photos under the entry "Blue Ribbon Winners". I entered 2 afghans this year. One was a ruffled edged afghan and the other was my tulip pictureghan. I won a blue ribbon for each entry. I'm thinking about entering these ghans in the NC State Fair this year. I'll let you know what I decide and the outcome. May 12 The Good Person of SetzuanLast night my friend Amanda and I went to the Deep Dish Theater Company's production of The Good Person of Setzuan. What a wonderful play.
Amanda was dressed in her Victorian garb and was disappointed that I was in jeans. LOL I had a headache and just couldn't decide what to wear so I chose the easiest thing. Plus, since I had been to Deep Dish for an earlier play, Marvin's Room, I knew that generally, people didn't get dressed up for shows there.
I told Amanda that I decided not to dress up so that SHE would be the center of attention. She WAS!!! People stopped her to talk to her about her beautiful outfit. I took this picture of her without her knowkledge and although it's a little blurry, you can see what a great fashion sense Amanda has. We plan on attending all the plays acted at Deep Dish. They have a wonderful and talented company and an evening at the theater is always enjoyable!! Enjoy!! Picture AfghanI'm in the process of making my first picture afghan. I think it will be very easy & I'm excited about completing it. I have to make 256 cream colored granny squares and 150 various multicolor squares and triangles to make an afghan with tulips and stems. I'll post a picture when it is completed. As of this hour, I have completed 185 cream squares. A long way to go. May 04 The CatsI've added pictures of our dear cats today. They are all so sweet. I think the only people who don't like cats are those who are either control freaks( one can NOT control a cat LOL) or they have never met cats as sweet-natured as ours.
Emily came into my life after the death of my first husband and the death of our wonderful dog, Bob. She came to NC with me from NJ. She is a Persian mix and quite beautiful both inside and out!
When I met my husband, Frank, we took Betty from someone in Winston-Salem who had to get rid of her because they were moving somewhere that did not allow pets. I wonder when I hear that excuse, would you give up your CHILD if you were told an apartment would not take children? I think not! You would find a different place to live. I sure would!! Well, we are her fourth and final home. She is so dear that we can't understand why anyone would give her up willingly!
Our next rescue was Hazel. I saw an add on the bulletin board at our local supermarket. These people were giving "Hazelnut" up for adoption because their son had developed asthma. They declawed her then threw her outside! in the middle of winter!! We could not sleep, knowing that Hazel was outside without her claws. We went to pick her up. When the lady found her, she handed her to Frank and she shredded his arms with her back claws! Frank said, "we're still taking her home"! What a guy!! She has been a wonderful addition to our family. She makes us laugh with her antics.
Our most recent addition is C.C. (Chocolate Chip). We met her former owner when we went searching for her. She told us that C.C. was an "outside" cat for 15 years. She is SO sweet!! Hence, the name C.C. She came to us to retire. Since I don't believe in animals being outside, she is living quite nicely in our home with Emily, Betty and Hazel. They all get along very well and our home is very peaceful and full of laughter. Ken's party 4/30/06Had a wonderful time today at Ken's 40th Birthday party. I met many nice people who I hope to see often! It's always fun to see Kazoo too. He's such a sweetheart!
Since he collects Revereware, we gave Ken a coffeepot. I won it on Ebay. He seemed to like it. Ken also got a pink flamingo.
April 28 CyranoLast night, April 27th, Amanda and I attended a play at UNC Playmakers Theatre. We saw Cyrano. What a fabulous production!!!! We were enthralled with the performances.
I told one of the attendants that I needed to use the ramp to enter since I had difficulty with stairs due to needing to have both knees replaced. Well, we were originally supposed to sit in the top row center of the theater. The attendant sat us in the FIRST ROW!! We could reach out and almost touch the stage. There were sword fights and we thought the actors would land in our laps. It was very exciting.
I'm so happy that I met Amanda while working at AC Moore in Durham, NC. We have become fast friends and enjoy many of the same cultural things. Amanda's next assignment is to find a ballet for us to see. Neither of us has ever been to a ballet and we are each looking forward to it a great deal! April 27 First day of my blogWell, here is the first entry in my blog. Wow! Is it 2006 and I'm FINALLY writing a blog?! LOL
